The Little Things

The little things in life are sometimes the best things. I love how the girls run to me saying, "Mommy! Mommy!" EVERY time I pick them up from preschool. My little man is a great hugger. He will have me pick him up, wrap his little arms around me squeeing tightly and then nuzzle his head into my neck. I love the way my husband gently puts his hand on the small of my back and of course his kisses. Snuggling! Our whole household has snugglers and I absolutely enjoy having everyone climb in our bed in the morning snuggling and slowly waking up..which leads to tickling and then breakfast.

Today was another day with a great surprise. My best friend, Sherri, sent me flowers! I love getting flowers. Sherri is one of those life time friends who really gets me and still likes me! :-) Do you have one of those? Thanks to the army we are about 12 hours apart but the internet and free long distance has helped us to constantly keep in touch. My life is better with her in it! So, enjoy my birthday flowers I know that I will. Oh wait! I forgot I was informed that they are a centerpiece because that's what you get when you're old. :-)

Cheese

I felt a little bad about posting Eric's many sullen faces because he is usually a happy boy. Then I thought that I haven't posted any of Erin my child who loves to "dance crazy...lalalaaaaa". And then there is the one I took of Josh tonight with his "new" bike frame. Enjoy a few pictures before I get back to getting the house ready for family (and some army friends) to arrive tomorrow.

Getting Bigger

Not me, but my sweet little girls. (Side note real quick: This is the longest I have gone without being pregnant since 2003! I guess that is why I have the energy to get up with Josh and stay awake.) Emma will be five in two and a half weeks. She is tall and skinny and a major wiggle worm while sleeping, she always has been. We've noticed that her feet have been hanging off the bottom of her toddler bed because of her sleep patterns. IF she keeps her head at the top she fits, but that isn't the case so we were off to look for a new big girl bed for her. Since the girls share a room and probably will for some time, it makes sense to buy bunk beds. We've been saving and looking for quite some time now (thank you to mom and dad for additional help) and what you see at the top left are the new big girl beds. Josh and I put them together last night and rearranged their room. It turned out well and surprisingly doesn't make the room look too full. We also got the type of bunk bed that can be separated and will look nice as two stand alone twin sized beds. It is bitter sweet to see my girls move onto the next stage. They certainly have enough leg room and they did enjoy picking out their own bedding. Emma feels like a big girl up on the top bunk and Erin went to sleep last night telling me how much she liked her new bed and how she is going to turn it into a fort. Eric even loves it and enjoys climbing to the top to dance and touch the ceiling. Our little girls are indeed getting bigger!

My not so secret secret

My sweet little Emma is at a stage where she is very honest with me, for which I am grateful and it also gives me insights into her personality and character. The other day a package arrived with a few things for Christmas that the girls were not to see. So, as any good parent, I "hide" it in my closet. I am really not thinking that this is hiding, but out of sight and out of mind is my philosophy on this one. Emma asked what the present was and I told her she would have to wait until her birthday, December 11th, or Christmas. Then she told me with a knowing smile, "Mommy, I know where you keep the presents. In the CLOSET! Your secret hiding place is not so secret." After stifling a laugh, I asked her if she has looked in the closet to find the presents. She told me, "No, but I think I am going to peek soon so you better hide them somewhere else." I guess I will be wrapping presents this weekend.

Pictures

Here are the promised pictures of Eric and his "looks". It starts with a rare and not intentional artistic look and then the normal dirty look.

Then a "I'm not listening look"
and two more of the close my eyes, lower my head and cover my eyes with my fingertips.

Quote of the day

I am so blessed to be able to stay at home with my three children. They are a constant source of joy and entertainment. Erin wins the quote of the day! While in the car, Emma brought up how she would, "never ever ever watch a Bratz movie!" Which made this mama proud as I don't like what they represent one iota. After making this statement several times and getting louder with each proclamation, Erin asked Emma not to talk about the Bratz girls anymore. She said, "Let's talk about something else. Like BLOOD!" Really, where does this stuff come from?!

My little man

Eric has been working on his dirty looks lately. He is really getting it down and it make me wonder if I have been doing it too often. Since he has two older sisters who sometimes mother him too much (really three mothers would drive anyone crazy) he has had to come up with a defense strategy which happens to be scratching. I know that when he does this I tell him, "No scratching!" and give him the disapproving look...apparently this is the source. Now when I tell him no, he closes his eyes, lowers his head quietly and then covers his eyes with his fingertips. It really is just too darned cute but I know that he is intentionally tuning me out. My goal today is to get a picture of the dirty look and his "I am invisible" look and of course I will share it here. Today I was in the grocery store, Ray's Apple Market by the post office, for all you local or used to be local people. We were checking out and Eric was pushing the cart with the car in front. I asked him to stop pushing it while I paid and gathered my groceries. Well, he stopped, thought about it and kept pushing. I asked him again to stop but this time when he stopped he looked at me, thought about it again, then gave me a dirty look and kept on pushing. Needless to say, the employees just howled with laughter and I couldn't hold in my own giggles while gathering up my little man.

Let's give this thing a try

I must admit that I have become a blogger junkie! I visit my sister-in-law's blog every time I am at the computer and have a few friends that I check quite often. Does that make me a voyeurist? They do post it for sharing so I guess it's okay. Anyone who has known me for a long time knows that I am not the best about consistently writing...hence the title of this blog. However, I would like to get this down before Josh deploys next year as it is easier to share with family and friends through a blog. So, Five Scrambled Eggs has begun..inspired by the five members of our household who lead semi-scrambled lives and the Egg part...well if you know me then it's obvious.
